More than Just a Choir

Singing for Wellbeing

Singing lowers cortisol and relieves stress and tension. Studies have shown that when people sing, endorphins and oxytocin are released by the brain which in turn lowers stress and anxiety levels.

Our main audition choir is OfOne Accord. We perform regularly throughout the year, to the highest of standards.

Young at Heart is our non-audition community choir performing several times a year with a focus on socialising and fun rehearsals to benefit mental health.

Charity

We achieved registered charity status in February 2009 which significantly enhances our ability to support local charities and good causes.  We are entirely self-financing and proud to have helped raise many thousands of pounds for other organisations over the years.

Each year we choose a charity to support and concert fees for that year go directly to it.  This year, choir members have voted to support Axis Counselling supporting survivors of sexual abuse.

Let’s Sing Childrens Choir

Exciting news coming soon about our new childrens choir.

Young at Heart Choir

Join our vibrant adult community choir, welcoming all enthusiasts eager to sing, socialise, or take to the stage for the first time! No auditions required – our rehearsals are laid-back, emphasising fun and community spirit.

Of One Accord provides support with equipment, music, accompanist, and director. Home Instead generously offers refreshments, and Bayston Hill Methodist Church graciously provides the hall free of charge.

Experience the joy of singing with us at our bi-weekly Friday afternoon rehearsals.

Tour

Each year the choir organises a singing tour. This broadens the choir experience and gives us the opportunity to share our music with new audiences. The Choir has visited Canada, Germany, Belgium and Spain, all of which were very successful both socially and musically, with concerts in larger often very ornate Gothic venues being the high points.

This year we are spending a weekend in Grange-over-Sands and Windermere in the Lake District.

Musical Leadership

Alison has been part of "Of One Accord" for many years as accompanist, teacher, co-director and conductor until Christmas 2004 when she took over as Musical Director. She promotes a strong work ethic and high standards are achieved through fun filled and engaging rehearsals.

Ann has also been part of “Of One Accord” for many years as accompanist with support from Michael as page turner. She studied piano at the Trinity College of Music before embarking on a successful teaching career with Shropshire Music Service.

“The only thing better than singing is more singing.”
